Band 911: Press kits & putting your best foot forward
We're introducing a new series of sporadically reappearing articles here at the Blog of Sound that is targeted specifically for all those indie bands out there. Some of you don't need these articles while others of you would be sorely remiss if you didn't study these writings.
Who needs fans? The importance of building and nurturing a fan club
It seems that all too often bands come along and just expect fans to fall in line, buy up their music and merchandise and attend their shows. They seem to think that they can randomly add "friends" to their Myspace page and everyone who accepts their friend add request has not only taken the time to visit their page and listen to their music but actually liked it to you.
Inside a musician's head: The pre-show playlist
Not all musicians are created equally. Surely there are the obvious differences amongst us that divide us into different genres, styles, and skill sets. Some of us draw our influences from the pool of rock musicians who did so much for the style while others are more closely tied to the true pioneers of jazz and blues musicians. But one thing seems to remain constant: all musicians have their own way of getting hyped up for a performance.
Didn’t I just hear that band?

We’ll let the difference between our five and the other 35 speak for themselves: all those bands sounded the same.
