In What We Give and Take.

By Christopher Lafond

I don't believe in Karma.

I do, however, know for a fact that members of the Karma Exchange have twice now ripped me out of myself; upstairs and heavily engaged in something devious; sent me tear-assing down through 2 floors – hitting the basement running flat-out to hear whatever it was only two of them were laying down in our wonderful, underground, and of course; completely illegal venue.

Here’s Some Perma-Stank

By Christopher Lafond

If you like funk you’ll like Frit!. The first time I saw them was at the late Bill’s Bar. Another band had just played; dressed as a Halloween something with frizzly hair and lab coats doing an amazing cover of the Black Eyed Peas’; “Let’s Get it Started” -- complete with 3, or was it 4-part harmonies of the introductory; “...runnin’ runnin’, run, runnin’, runnin’...” Beautiful spectacle.

After we’d sweat a bit we head outside for steam and smoke and introduction...

Frit’s bassist and his girlfriend were outside smoking...was it arriving? Not sure. Either way; Wally was of average height (to me), tie dyed and had crazy electrocuted hair. His girl was really intense and of the same vein; unabashedly hippy-esque and LOVING IT. One can’t help but admire the commitment. Late that evening Wally’s hair would be under some kind of hat I remember and his head’d be lolling to his music in a way suggesting it’d soon loll right off. He was, is and probably forever will be: definitely crazy.

Maybe he was too crazy, because now something like a year later he’s out in some Mid-Western state doing who knows what and Frit has a new bassist. He’s called Eli (pronounced “elly” and the boy holds it down in a different kind of way.

I was speaking to Noah who plays the Nord for ‘em and I guess Eli was in consideration before and for some reason it wouldn’t have worked.

That was then: This is now.

Eli’s in on bass along with Cam hitting drums, Aforementioned Noah on Keys, and Rob is guitar. Me oh my it’s what they need, it’s what they’ve got and it’s what’ll move you.

You can dance to it. You can pick it apart for its serious musicality or you can sit back and let it fill in the gaps of your evening’s conversation. Whatever else it is, Frit’s self proclaimed style is “perma-stank” and while it follows that you don’t know exactly what that entails; listen and you can find out. It’s feel good. It’s a smile and a jam. It’s a shiny new something and it’s a shame they’re not out there playing it up and out and all around for you to hear.

Don’t fret child; there’s good reason Frit! isn’t easily accesable, re; dopapod, California?, BoobieParty and other projects I’m not privy to but’m sure out there.

And WHEW! I just confirmed their site still existed and they’re playing a couple shows in a couple months. Never felt so right to be wrong. Check it or wreck it darlin’. www.myspace.com/fritband

Nerd Rock

By Joseph Trukovich

What I see around me are faces of young Americans inspired by a master story teller. Armed with a hollow body Epiphone and a mic, Kelly Kerr sweeps away the audience in a watercourse of toe tapping riffs.
