The Tattle Tales
By Laura Robida
Whenever you hear "I'm big in Japan," you no doubt snicker. Everyone seems to be big in Japan, just look at The Heff. But for pop rock band the Tattle Tales, it's true.
Signed to Japanese indie label Thistime Records, the Tattle Tales are
not quite newcomers to the music scene. With three albums under their belts and a more than a few "self-financed" tours, there is something beyond the ordinary that makes the Tattle Tales unique.
A quintet from Rockland County, New York, the Tattle Tales produce pop rock that's both original and heavily influenced by legendary bands that have gone before. There's a Beach Boys vibe mixed with a sound reminiscent of Elvis Costello and modern rock nerds Weezer. Toss it together with numerous vocalists, bouncy rhythms, some slap bass (which we think is sorely missing from a lot of modern rock and roll) and harmonies to boot and you've got the Tattle Tales.
If you don’t think you’ve heard the Tattle Tales before, you probably have. For those of you involved in the reality-soaked absurdity that is MTV, the Tattle Tales had their song "So Wanna Kiss You" featured during the MTV Movie Awards for the Best Kiss category. And if you ask us, "So Wanna Kiss You" is a good a way as any to get into the Tattle Tales.
Take a stop by their Myspace page and listen to the six songs streaming from their Myspace player. Each song is a standout but we find ourselves going back to "Her New Company," "Evelyn," and "So Wanna Kiss You.
Editor's Note: The Tattle Tales are currently shopping for a label here in the U.S. If you happen to have a label, be sure to check them out. They're completely worth your time. They could be the next big thing and thanks to MTV and the CW Network there are more than enough avenues to showcase this band. You can check out the Tattle Tales on Myspace at www.myspace.com/thetattletales.
