"Back to the Middle"
The Celebrities
The Celebrities
Hailing from New Jersey, the Celebrities dish out a brand of surf-style, laid-back pop-rock reminiscent of the Beach Boys and Rooney. We dig lead singer Timmy Sean's vocals that remind us of Lenny Kravitz of days gone by. "Back to the Middle" is an ironic song from a formidable band. The song boasts razor sharp lyrics and whit with incredibly infectious melodies and harmonies that never seem to quit. You can download "Back to the Middle" for free from the Celebrities' Myspace page at www.myspace.com/thecelebrities.
"High Chase Speed"
Daisy Grenades
Daisy Grenades
Like bands like Motorhead and Girlschool? L7 have a special spot in your heart? Well then check out Daisy Grenades. From New York, Daisy Grenades is a quartet that knows how to rock and they know how to rock hard. "High Chase Speed" is a great way to get to know Daisy Grenades with this hook-laden, high octane metal party tune. Check it out on their Myspace page at www.myspace.com/daisygrenades and then buy their CD from the PayPal store they've set up there (if you're really sweet the girls will even sign it for you.)
"Betty Ford Princess"
Plastic Parachute
Plastic Parachute
Plastic Parachute isn't exactly indie or unsigned these days. They've inked a deal with MRV/Caroline Records/EMI and have hit the majors but take a random street poll and you'll find few folks who are familiar with the Parachute. That's a shame, too. "Betty Ford Princess" is off their 2008 EMI release "Elephants and Giraffes," a follow up to "Swell." It's pop-rock in its finest form. Take some Greta Garbo and put it in a blender with some pop-rock and you've got the 'Chutes. You can check out the magic that is Plastic Parachute at their Myspace, www.myspace.com/plasticparachute.
"Ain't Your Mama"
Naked Beggars
They're not naked and they're not begging, but Naked Beggars is one of the best Southern rock/classic rock bands we've heard in a very long time. This year marks the release of "XXX" but it's not the first time Inga Brittingham and company have hit us with their awesome rock stylings. "Ain't Your Mama" comes from their 2006 release "Spit it Out" (a great CD. If you don't have it now, you should get it. It's worth it.) If you like a little rock and soul with your country twang check out Naked Beggars at their Myspace www.myspace.com/nakedbeggars.
"Music Inside"
She Eats Planets
She Eats Planets
Relatively new on the music scene, She Eats Planets is a pop-rock/rock quintet based in Connecticut. We're not entirely sure who "She" is or why she's eating planets but we do know that She Eats Planets rocks. "Music Inside" is their first original release and it's currently streaming live on their Myspace page and is available for sale through SnoCap. She Eats Planets is along the lines of bands like The Donnas, Sahara Hotnights with a vocalist who reminds us of Gwen Stefani from her No Doubt days and Hayley Williams of Paramore. Check them out at www.myspace.com/sheeatsplanets
